How to Support others with Tech Help

How Can I Support My Tech-Challenged Loved Ones Without Going Insane?

Lifehacker, and excellent resource for, well, everything, has a great article entitled "How Can I Support My Tech-Challenged Loved Ones Without Going Insane?" that has tons of tips and resources for helping others with tech support issues. These tips and resources are great for educators and students too.

Some of the tips: Help and Support sites, Curriculum of tech support help, remote support, and more.

These resources can be used by educators to help other educators and students with tech issues, especially in these days of shrinking budgets and over worked IT and EdTech personnel.

Lifehacker - tips and information for everything

Lifehacker is one of those web sites that has so much stuff you don't know where to start.

Lifehacker features tips, shortcuts, downloads, and information to help you get things done smarter and more efficiently. Lifehacker has won many awards and accolades and I always find good ideas or resources on the site.

Software, web sites, products, tips and tricks, and other ideas are published each day (sometimes more than 20 articles per day). They range from web browser extensions, to how to maintain a computer, to how to best grill a steak to fixing things at home, and more. Chances are if you have a question, they have an answer.

I've found some great tips on cooking, travel and technology on Lifehacker.

I highly recommend subscribing to Lifehacker and browsing the site. There are always new jewels to be found.

Convert scanned images to text with Google Docs

image downloaded from http://www.robmcghee.com/ on 10/6/09

You can use Google Docs to perform OCR (Optical Character Recognition) image-to-text conversions on image files. The files should be very clear. You may have to do some proofreading, but I have had to do that with every OCR system I've used. It's a great way to take that paper copy you have and turn it in to an editable text file. And, it's free.
